2011 Mütter Museum Masquerade Ball

The Invite!

So I’ll be working for Philadelphia Weekly tonight at this Masquerade Ball at Philadelphia’s oh-so creepy Mütter Museum! Celebrating the 200th birthday of Dr. Thomas Dent Mütter, the generous benefactor and namesake of the disturbingly informative Philadelphia landmark, this 21+ event will feature live music, a DJ, hors d’oeuvres, Victorian costumes and masks, beer and wine bar, an elaborate birthday cake and the specialty drink of the night: The Mütter.

A little history of the Museum via Wikipedia: “The Mütter Museum contains a collection of medical oddities, anatomical and pathological specimens, wax models, and antique medical equipment. The museum is part of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The original purpose of the collection, donated by Dr. Thomas Dent Mütter in 1858, was medical research and education.” Aka some mad scientist/surgeon decided to donate a bunch of creepy artifacts of human oddities to Philadelphia. Thanks Tom!

I’m super excited to attend! Check out the below pictures for images of inside the Mütter Museum!
