I recently ordered this acclaimed movie from NetFlix, not knowing what to expect but excited for the potential of a foreign thriller. Based on the award-winning crime novel by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” is the first in his Millennium Trilogy of books which also include the novels “The Girl Who Played with Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest.” The basic plot line of the movie is as follows: “An epic tale of serial murder and corporate trickery spanning several continents, the novel takes in complicated international financial fraud and the buried evil past of a wealthy Swedish industrial family.”
To sum up, this movie is about a journalist hired to discover the 40 year disappearance of a wealthy tycoon’s niece, Harriet. Along the way, he meets a cyberhacker named Lisbeth Salander- a damaged heroine with a past full of secrets. They both set out to discover some extremely deep family secrets of the tycoon’s family and the true story of what happened to Harriet. Be prepared for the Euro-style of directoin in this movie, along with the dramatic sexual scenes and subtitles. I thoroughly enjoyed The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for all the raunchy, dark secrets that uncovered throughout the movie. I recommend this movie to anyone with a strong stomach for sexual crime scenes and creepy family histories, as well as someone who enjoys a good detective story. Can’t wait for the next movies from the Millennium Trilogy starring Lisbeth!
