Yay for Philly FABB!

Philadelphia Fashion and Beauty Bloggers (also known as the Philly FABB now!) have come together for the first time thanks to Jessie Holeva and Lauren Mantilla, co-founders of this new network for bloggers. I got the opportunity to join in on this community, and thoroughly enjoyed our first kickoff bash hosted at Andre Richards Salon! We got the VIP treatment with manicures (by doorBella), blowouts (by Andre Richards Salon), custom jewlery (by Simply Adeline) and more! We also left with awesome goody bags thanks to sponsors such as Dermablend, Coterie, and Sonsi. Check out my full recap of the event on two.one.five magazine below (click the image), and also check out fellow FABB blogger Natalie from The Second Best as she recaps the event on Lucky Magazine!

Here’s a video recap of the event as well!

I can’t wait for the upcoming networking/fashion/beauty/blogger events from this group. :)

Greenfest Philly

The largest environmental festival in Philly is going down this Sunday, September 9th between 2nd and Pine to 2nd and South! Check out Greenfest Philly to “learn about living sustainably while having fun! This event has something for everyone: shopping for local green wares, great food, live music, live demonstrations, kid-friendly activities, and more.” Nothing better than a free, and environmentally-friendly event in the city!

Of Monsters and Men – “Love Love Love “

True to my hipster, indie music craze, I’ve recently gotten into the sounds of the 6-person Icelandic band called “Of Monsters and Men.” Above is one of their singles called “Love Love Love,” which (if you can’t tell already) I love love love. The female vocalist, Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, has a really timid yet unique voice that is a really good fit for rainy evenings or long road trips through the countryside, while the overall music meshes the melodies of typical folk sounds with some mellow, indie vibes.

Of Monsters and Men had an album come out this past year called My Head Is An Animal that is definitely worth checking out. Songs like Little Talks and Slow and Steady are my current favorites. For more information on them, check out their official website here. AND for those of you located in Philly, they’ll be performing for FREE this Saturday, July 28th at the Piazza in NoLibs! Hosted by Radio 104.5 as part of their Summer Block Parties series, this is a free concert from 3:45pm-7pm. Popular Philly music blog, The Swollen Fox, has a great write-up on the band’s past performance at the TLA this past April AND their setlist  here: “Of Monsters and Men played two nights at the TLA.”

Enjoy my fellow Icelandic band lovers!

The Color Run!

I had the best time participating in Sunday’s Color Run, aka the “happiest 5K on the planet!” Over 20,000 people came out to Ben Franklin Parkway at 7am to run/jog/walk/crawl around Fairmount Park, with a new color being thrown at them at each kilometer. Afterwards, everyone celebrated with some crazy techno dance moves as a party ensued around 9am. I definitely recommend doing this run in your city next year with a bunch of your friends! Check out some pics below from my team “YOLO”. :)

My Favorite Philly Tradition – Center City Sips!

Summer has begun, which means only one thing: Sips! A summer happy hour tradition that takes place every Wednesday, Sips is the best excuse to get your butt to the city after 5pm and enjoy some awesome drink specials at over 80 locations. “What are the specials Melissa?” you may ask. $5 cocktails, $4 wine, $3 beer and half-priced appetizers. Yup, pretty amazing. One of the best aspects of Sips is that you can visit different restaurants and try delicious cuisines that you normally wouldn’t be able to afford or what not. The prices are so decent that anyone can enjoy the many levels of “happy” achieved from Summertime Wednesday evenings in Philadelphia.  Another perk: free parking all over Philly! My goal one summer was to visit all of the bars/restaurants hosting the Sips special, but I only made it to 1/3 of them. This year, I’m aiming high and going to go for the gold. :)

Check out all of the locations and their specials here. To keep up with any Sips updates, make sure to also follow them @CCDSips.

Salute!

Art Star Craft Bazaar

The annual Art Star Craft Bazaar occurred this past weekend over at Penn’s Landing! With over 140 vendors displaying their fantastic products, local Philadelphians had the pleasure of walking around and buying handmade crafts from fellow artists. Check out below for some pictures from the event, and make sure to check out next May’s Craft Bazaar!
